18-8型钢中具有代表性的是含18%铬和8%~9%镍的18-8型不锈钢，如ZG0Cr18Ni9、ZG1Gr18Ni9和ZG1Cr18Ni9Ti，通常称为镍铬不锈钢。
这种钢由于含铬量高，易形成氧化膜和氮化物及碳化物的难熔质点，使得钢液的流动性较差，在熔模精密铸造件中容易产生冷隔、浇不足、表面皱皮和夹杂等缺陷，为了避免这些缺陷，应在较高温度下和较大速度下浇注。
18-8型不锈钢的体收缩也较大，失蜡精密铸造件易产生缩孔和缩松，在铸件工艺设计时应力求实现顺序凝固，冒口尺寸应比普通碳钢件大20%~30%。
此外，这类钢的热裂倾向大，钢的线收缩值也大（自由线收缩值为3.0%~3.2%）。为避免或减轻上述原因引起的铸件缺陷，在进行铸件工艺设计时对浇冒系统、铸造圆角、收缩余量等结构和参数的选用尤应注意。
